CJSC Newsletter 2014

With xmas upon us, no doubt we are all flat out trying to get work done and Christmas shopping completed before the 25th.  Take a moment to pop out to the lake over the holidays and relax on the water... its a great stress release!!!! Our amazing facility, Lake Roto Kohatu is a great place to use your PWC in fresh water.  If you are new to the club and not sure on the track layout, ask someone or follow other riders around. There is a copy of the track on our facebook page and further details with this newsletter. In most cases the course is right turn on white and left turn on red in an anti clockwise direction.  The left hand side of the lake is set in a split course (2 track options) merging at the small white strung buoy line.  Please be aware of who is around you before making turns especially at high speed.  Accidents can cause a lot of damage to your bones and craft.  To all of our racers... please be understanding of new members and help them learn the track... most busy days at the lake I ask that you be considerate of others and take track time slots so racers and recreational users all have their fair time on the water.

Have a happy and safe Christmas and New Year and be safe on your PWC where ever you are over the holiday season.

Lake Rules

There seems to be many club members flaunting the CJSC rules and regulations. This is NOT acceptable.

We have listed below the most common broken rules as a reminder... the “I didn’t know” excuse will not be accepted as everyone has a copy of the rules on the reverse of their membership form copy.

The lake is leased to CJSC from the Christchurch City Council and breaches of the official rules could result in the facility being taken from us.  The rules are there for everyone’s safety, follow them or lose your membership.

  • When entering and leaving the lake, ALWAYS lock the gate and use the official road (not via driving up over the grassed hill).  If you find the gate unlocked and it is not an official race day please lock it immediately and inform a committee member.
  • ALWAYS wear a PFD (life Jacket) and helmet when riding on the lake.
  • NEVER refuel while your ski is in the water.  Pull your trailer clear of the waters edge.
  • NEVER tow any objects of any kind (the lake area is too small).  This includes (but is not limited to) water skis, wake boards, biscuits, small inflatable’s.
  • ONLY PWC’s to be used on the lake.  No boats or other water craft.
  • Absolutely NO alcohol or drugs to be consumed while you are at the lake riding your PWC.  While we do not recommend it with the new low limit laws..... if you have to have a beer please wait until you have packed up your PWC.
  • Follow the approved track, DO NOT roar across the track between the course markers, there may be a fast ski on the track unaware of your chosen course.  This could result in a severe accident causing grave injuries. Always look and signal before entering, exiting or turning from the course.
  • Children under the age of 15 are NOT permitted to operate a PWC on their own.  This is a NZ Maritime law. We welcome you taking them for rides on a ski you are in full control of.
  • You are welcome to take friends out to share your PWC BUT are not permitted to let friends in with their own PWC’s.  Memberships are limited to the person who is listed on the form. When meeting friends at the lake, arrange to meet them at the gate or ask them to park in the council area at the gate.  DO NOT leave the gate open for them. Make them aware of all the regulations before they ride your PWC.
  • Sharing Keys is not permitted.

BBQ’s

Some unsavoury person has vandalised our BBQs and stolen the burners that we had installed last year.  We are working on replacing them.  Please keep a look out for any suspicious characters lurking in the area and advise your committee if you are concerned.
Once the BBQs are repaired your gate key unlocks the BBQ area.  Bring a gas bottle out with you and enjoy a BBQ while you utilize the lake area.

Dogs

When the CJSC was first given the lake area the committee decided that the area should be dog free.  Since the area has been developed by the CCC we have noted a large increase in the amount of dogs that are walked in the area.  We are now forced to review our stance on dogs in our leased area.  Whilst we cannot keep dogs out we have decided to erect signs asking that dogs be kept on a leash and that owners pick up their dogs poo.  Many families have young children and large dogs running around can be frightening to them not to mention stepping in a land mine!!!!!  We are happy to allow club members to bring their dogs out as long as they are kept leashed and waste is collected.

Swimming

Many of us have witnessed members of the public swimming in the club lake.  The club is erecting signs warning that swimming is not permitted in our lake.  If you see any public swimming in our area please ask them politely to use the 2nd lake or water polo area. It is dangerous to swim around PWC’s that could be travelling at speed.
